Mozilla Org Updates : Mozilla to Develop OS based on android!

Mozilla, who are renowned for their successful internet browser, are entering the mobile race, developing a new web-centric OS that will directly compete with Google, Apple and Microsoft.

If the name Mozilla rings any bells it's because they're the tech boffins who put together Internet Explorer, the browser that Windows defaults to. Mozilla took the leviathan computing company on with its Firefox browser, and today it stands as the second most popular browser worldwide.

Now the company who was underdog to Microsoft looks to be playing the same role, but this time against internet mogul Google.

Announced on the Mozilla discussion forum, Mozilla have begun coding for phones and tablets. The BBC revealed the mobile operating system will draw on Android code, with Mozilla writing as much fresh code as possible. The hybrid-like operating system will be named Boot To Gecko.

It is an unusual name for an OS, until you remember Gecko is the rendering engine employed by the Firefox browser that interprets web page coding and displays it in a screen-friendly format, a homage to its origins.

Even though Android coding will form the operating system's foundations, Mozilla hope to add a much more open wrapper around it than Google currently do, making it more versatile as an operating system.

Its shared foundations will also make Boot To Gecko compatible with the same phones as Android, competing as a direct alternative to Google.

Often, when you select a link from an application native to the Android or iOS market, the operating system will have to open a new webpage in the browser. Boot To Gecko aims to limit this by making applications much more web-centric.

If the venture proves successful, Mozilla will be waging war against industry giants, with Google, Apple and Microsoft dominating many facets of the technological world.

Mozilla have acknowledged the project is in infancy and have chosen to make the development public in hope it will attract talented enthusiast coders who will contribute to the Boot To Gecko's cause.

According to their project team, all of the code development will be completed and shared with the public as soon as it is written.

Researcher Andreas Gal, who announced the development, admits the company has set a high target, but wants to do it "the way we think open source should be done.

Gal says his ultimate goal is to break "the stranglehold of proprietary technologies over the mobile device world," implicitly referring to the practices of Apple, Windows Phone and Google.

SEMINAR ON Opportunities in Management Careers a huge success!

A seminar for future MBA aspirants was conducted on 15.09.2010 by the MozYouth Club, MES Kuttippuram. The event was very well organized by the i10 group in the college auditorium. The seminar commenced at 2.30 pm and was presided by Principal Dr.V.H.Abdusalam. Sharing the dais was Prince Sir(staff in charge MYC)Sreehari(Students co ordinator, MYC). The chief guests of the day were Mr. Nishad Gopuram, Director of T.I.M.E and alumnus XLRI and Mr. Sriram Kovil(NIT) T.I.M.E institute, Calicut.

Dr V.H AbduSalam started off the meeting with an excellent opening note . Sreehari , Student Coordinator S5 CSE welcomed the guests and members of the audience to the event. The seminar started with Mr. Nishad taking the first session. This session focused on the career opportunities open to B.Tech students if they opted to do an MBA after their graduation. Mr. Nishad also detailed the options open with the various business schools all over India and abroad and also on the entrance exam patterns for the same. He also covered specialization during the MBA course and the merits of the same. In between , an ice breaking session was done with the audience and it helped the youngsters to connect with him and tap in to his experience. Students polled after the meeting told that particular useful information that came out of the seminar was the details around the various fee structures and options to avail educational loans to fund the MBA program.

Mr.Sriram Kovil took the next session which focused on alternate management programs. During this session, Mr. Kovil discussed details on the various institutions in Kerala for alternate management programs – a big part of this session was to talk about course durations and effectiveness . He also gave an insight in to the entrance exam formats such as GRE, CAT and GMAT and also on their scoring patterns. An Q&A session followed and had active participation from the audience,a quick flavor of the questions asked ---- Sruthi, S5 EC was curious about knowing the real life challenges in opting for an MBA after graduating. Many such questions were asked and were quickly clarified . Mr.Nishad and Mr.Kovil also engaged in a brain storming session with the team. The seminar ended with vote of thanks by Shehfinaz, S5 CSE at about 4.45pm.

STRESS AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT :A seminar

On 22nd july MOZ YOUTH CLUB came with a new face.As promised the first program of personality development was conducted,a seminar on STRESS AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT.. It was conducted in the Main Seminar Hall (3:30 pm)
The Event was inaugarated by MR SAJI KURIAKOSE, Head Of the Department of MANAGEMENT STUDIES , MES College Of Engineering, Kuttippuram.

Vishnu ,ExE MYC gave the welcome speech and invited our chief guest MR SAJI KURIAKOSE, to inaugrate the session. MR SAJI KURIAKOSE gave a complete overview of da whole topic and had a great interaction with the students....He appreciated the thought of collage kids conducting a seminar on this topic rather than inviting someone from outside to do so..

The hosts for the evening were Amrutha Ajithan ,Exe,MYC and Faiza A R Exe,MYC

Since everyone has a unique response to stress, there is no “one size fits all” solution to managing it. Hence a general outlook was provided by our hosts to the audience.

They concentrated on 6 strategies ,which were

Avoid unnecessary stress
Alter the situation
Adapt to the stressor
Accept the things you can’t change
Make time for fun and relaxation
Adopt a healthy lifestyle

There was a slide along with the talk to help the audience regain their pace if they slowed down..

The audience were a treat to the hosts as they were as lively as ever.Even though there was a small falll of not mentioning yoga as one of the main methods of managing stress the audience had the courtesy to remind the speakers about it.

INTRODUCTION:
In the programme planning for the events of MYC ,for months of july and august, two program committee groups came up with the suggestion of a chess competition which was selected by the quality control team of MYC. Thus a 'CHESS HALL OF FAME' was proposed to conduct under MYC in MES CE.
In 5/06/10(monday) all department students were informed of the chess competition through a official notice approved by the principal. For the dates of 05, 06/07/10(monday , tuesday) registration for 50 students were opened, with a registration fee of Rs.15 for members and Rs.25 for non-members of MYC in MES CE. 50 people registered for the first day itself and registration was closed.
Event was proposed to be conducted at evening after college hours frm 4:40pm to 6:00pm. Days for the program were so selected from working days of college that friday was excluded due to lack of participation of hostelers on that day. The event dates were selected as 7,8,12,13,14,15 of JULY.
About the game, each contestant will have 6 games. A win in a game is met with 1 point and a loss in a game is met with 0 point, .5 points in the case of walk over or draw. Based on the points in the first 5 games contestants for HALL OF FAME of 10 positions will be selected, 10 players each playing for respective positions in the HALL OF FAME based on their points.
For the first day an inaugral session was planned to conduct with PRINCIPAL and CAMPUS MANAGER as chief guests. The auditorium was set-up for the event. Chess boardsfor the event werellected among students and remaining were brought with registration fee collected.
Publicity for the event was given through charts an,flexes and other media like social networking sites and through sms. The event became more popular when 'The World Of TITAN' came up as the gift sponsor for the event. Advertisement of TITAN were also displayed with publicity medias.

PROGRAMME:

DAY 1:(07/07/10)

The 'CHESS HALL OF FAME' was inaugrated by PRINCIPAL and CAMPUS MANAGER by playing 3 moves of a game. PRINCIPAL, Sir.Abdul Salam and Staff Co-ordinator, RAHUL.C delivered short speeches on the game chess and about the MYC club. Schedules were displayed for the contestants and game between 50 students were conducted. There were viewers about 250 + the students excluding the contestants.
DAY 2,3,4,5:(08,12,13,14 /07/10)
Matches were carried out as per the schedules. Viewers and support added as the publicity increased. After the fifth day based on points level fixtures for the final 10, the 'HALL OF FAME' were selected. These 4 days were having moderate level of viewers, about 150 + people.

DAY 6:(15/07/10)
Grand Finale:
Auditorium was so arranged that the finalists were to play their game above the stage. And the match for the first position was shown live with projector. The final event was occupied by 350+ students excluding the contestants. PRINCIPAL was the chief guest. He delivered a speech appreciating the organizing of the event and also added that he is looking forward for a season-2 of the same next year. He also thanked the gift sponsors 'The World Of TITAN'. After the speech MYC student co-ordinator, SREEHARI.D delivered a felicitation speech. Principal congragulated by shaking hands with the finalists. Each and every moves of the final game were observed keenly by the viewers and the match end up at 6:50pm ending the final game.

MONOPOLIES v/s OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARES :- a debate

MOZ YOUTH CLUB of MES COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING conducted a debate on the topic MONOPOLIES V/S OPEN SOFTWARES on 22nd June 2010.
Staff Coordinator Mr.Rahul.C gave a brief about the topic.

ExE, myc.

the participants were given instructions and rules to follow while doing a debate.

The team who supported monopolies were mainly focusing on the security of their software in which the copyright is restricted while the others were supporting the better developing abilities of open source software.
The most active participants were, Assad Hariz, member, myc and Nazrin , member, myc

the other ideas developed were...

Monopolies provide
* Better quality in turn of the money costumers pay, and provides most-user friendly interface.
* Major product manufacturers comes up with recommending windows & and all..
* Do not ask donations

And the open source provide

* It has faster response
* Make users' computing experiences a learning process.
* So that they develop as developers themselves

*IDC surveys tell us that during last few years the users of Microsoft will be declined at a rate of
41% where as 'Linux' increased at a rate of 27%.

* Aimed at serving people
* Donations for the survival of the community not for the profit.

* Marketing tie ups with manufacturers are mainly focusing on profit.

The moderator had to provide some additional information such as- Ignorance of the African hackers by Microsoft and less security breach in mac OS X.
The Campus rep gave a felicitation on the topic, and the debate was concluded by the moderator, Nadeem Ismail with the scores made by each team annoncing that the team which SUPPORTED THE OPEN SOURCE MADE THE WIN.

The program was conducted in presence of the quality council member, Didin Menon, And The Campus rep, Sreehari D.

Shenil....we miss you...!!

It's time we showed our love to one of our dearest friend SHENIL P IGNETIOUS, who left us giving us a shock which we haven't come above since. SHENIL was blessed with his great drawing and photography skills, which all his friends, teachers and college admired. He was an hardworker and a perfectionist. He was also a very active member of the club. And so it was our duty we give him a best comemmoration.

Shenil was a nature lover, who had plans with his friends planting trees on the road side from his block to main college campus. So we decided we will fullfill his dream. So on SHENIL birthday on MARCH 22nd we celebrated ECO DAY in the college by planting a sappling together by PRINCIPAL, DIRECTOR of ARCH and HIS BROTHER SHELIL.

From this year MARCH 22nd would be celeberated as ECO DAY in the campus with various eco activities, every year on memory of SHENIL.

At last after lot of efforts...! Lot of sleepless nights and hardwork... the day has finally come and gone with a great bang!! Thanks to all my dear dear friends and executives of the club who stood with me in making this inauguration a great success!

And yes! this club has some importance that any other Mozilla club cannot claim...

1) it's world's first mozilla club that gives equal importance to fun, entertainment, youth development, technical enrichment, spreading firefox and open source... In short it's world's first youth club in the name of mozilla!

2) it has highest paid premium members...! 650+ members and counting...

3) Highest number of programs to be conducted (both technical and fun) than any other mozilla club in the world... 11+ /month...

We have big plans on roll and will keep you updated about the happenings now and then...

Looking forward to connect to other colleges and making this youth club more wider and greater important to Mozilla....
